Iowa became the 29th State in the Union on December 28th, 1846.

Iowa Allows: Referenda and Legislative Referal Statutes.

Signature Requirements:

  • Governor or Senate: 1% of voters in candidates party in each of at least 10 counties.
  • State Elected Officer: 1000 signatures with at least 50 from each of the 10 counties
  • U.S. Representative: 2% from at least 1/2 of the counties in the representative’s district.
  • Senate: 100 signatures.
  • State House: 50 signatures.

Iowa Code Section 362.4 provides statutes and referenda rights in charter cities by legislative referral only.
